Vision insurance (e.g. Davis Vision, EyeMed, and VSP) typically covers routine vision exams and prescriptions for glasses or contact lenses. Vision plans generally do not cover the diagnosis or treatment of medical eye conditions.

Medical insurance (e.g. Select Health, Select Health Advantage, United Healthcare, Medicare, Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Cigna) is considered primary when evaluating or treating medical eye conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, dry eye syndrome, flashes and floaters, macular degeneration, and other ocular health concerns.
